  Church of Saint Lazarus in Larnaca
    Άγιο Λάζαρο - Saint Lazarus of Bethany, from the Hebrew אלעזר — Elʿāzār or Eleazar, meaning "God is my help."
The Church of Saint Lazarus — Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Λαζάρου in Κίτιον-Kition, known today as Λάρνακα-Larnaca, Κύπρος-Cyprus, was built in the very late Ninth Century,
in recompense for Byzantine Emperor Leo VI having taken to Constantinople relics of Saint Lazarus which were discovered on the spot in 890.

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at table with him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said, “Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young ass and sat upon it; as it is written,

“Fear not, daughter of Zion;
behold, your king is coming,
sitting on an ass’s colt!”

His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. The Pharisees then said to one another, “You see that you can do nothing; look, the world has gone after him.”

Christian Lefkosia overshadowed uec_cy_lefkosia_cathedrale_sainte_sophie_became_selimiye_mosque uec_cy_lefkosia_st_mary_church_became_omeriye_mosque Muslim Turkish aggressive hate trying in earnest to overshadow Orthodox Christian Lefkosia

The Treaty of Bucharest, 28 July 1913, as Greek and Armenian Christians were soon to learn, left much unresolved in the Balkans, but
unlike the brief Second Balkan War, a fratricidal civil war within European Christendom, always despicable, which broke out on 16 June 1913,
the First Balkan War, lasting from 8 October 1912 to 30 May 1913, was both necessary and heroic. Britain, France, Germany and Austria
prevaricated, equivocated and continued their narrow-minded, geopolitical-nationalistic machinations, when they were not outright arming the Turks!
Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro and Greece were finally uniting effectively to rid the European Continent of the Muslim Turkic scourge ... well, almost.
Here on the hill side just north of Cypriot-Greek-Orthodox-Christian Lefkosia-Λευκωσία, we see the Muslims reminding us all of their abiding hostility
and aggresiveness with a colossal Turkish "flag" illuminated nightly within the portion of Cyprus they stole and still occupy.
Sorry to polute this page with words and images about ugly Muslim hate. Better to deal with these matters elsewhere.

Cyprus is beautiful, and with God's Grace the Turks will convert to Christianity or leave Christendom.

To the soft Cyprian shores the goddess moves,
To visit Paphos and her blooming groves,
Where to the Power an hundred altars rise,
And breathing odours scent the balmy skies;
Concealed she bathes in consecrated bowers,
The Graces unguents shed, ambrosial showers,
Unguents that charm the gods! she last assumes
Her wondrous robes; and full the goddess blooms.

Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Mana-en a member of the court of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia; and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them. When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet, named Bar-Jesus. He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) withstood them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith. But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem.
